May 6, 2008 3:49 p.m. EST Henry Frederick - AHN New York, NY (AHN) - New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning didn't have to worry about his blind side during his Super Bowl drives thanks in part to left tackle David Diehl. Now that Diehl has proven he's the real deal, he has secured himself a new contract worth $31 million, according to ESPN. Diehl replaced Luke Petigout at left tackle and proved his mettle when it counted as the underdog Giants beat the heavily favored and undefeated New England Patriots to win the Super Bowl. The Giants tore up the former left guard's old contract and gave him the $31 million deal that has an escalator clause giving him between $750,000 to $1.1 million as long as he continues to play the new position. He was being paid $15.1 million in 2005 that was to run through 2011. Diehl's contract was signed before the NFL draft, but not announced by the team until Tuesday.
