Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Lawmakers have reached an agreement about provisions of the farm bill that the White House has threatened to veto.

The bill now limits subsidies to farmers earning less than $750,000. Direct payments to recipients of the federal program have also been limited to $40,000 annually.

Lawmakers are expecting President George Bush to go through with his threat to veto the bill despite their adjusting income caps according to the his request, the Congressional Quarterly reports.

The President met with Agriculture Secretary Ed Schafer and Rep. Robert Goodlatte (R-VA), the ranking minority member of the House Agriculture Committee, on Wednesday, the same day the agreement was reached.

The House and Senate will be voting on the measure next week.

Lawmakers are expected to reveal more details about the $300 billion legislation in a press conference scheduled for Thursday.
