Phoenix, AZ (AHN) - Brandon Webb cruised to his eighth straight win, Chris Young rifled a homer in his first at-bat and the Arizona Diamondbacks scuttled the Philadelphia Phillies 8-3 Thursday night at Chase Field.

Webb engineered another masterful outing on the mound, limiting the Phillies to just two earned runs and six hits for a complete game. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter on the way to the majors' best start for a pitcher this season.

The former NL Cy Young winner, as usual, had the D-backs behind him. After the home team trailed 1-0 on Chase Utley's sac fly in the first, Young hit a two-run homer off Brett Myers (2-3) to move Arizona ahead.

The Phillies never recovered and Myers failed to get his third win of the season in four tries. The former closer allowed seven runs-six earned-and nine hits in five innings. His run support came back in the ninth but it hardly mattered as the Diamondbacks gained a series split with the Phillies.

Eric Bruntlett and Ryan Howard drove in RBI singles in the ninth for Philadelphia, which dropped to 20-16 on the season. The Phillies next head to the Bay area for a three-game series with the Giants starting Friday.

Arizona improved the majors' best overall mark to 23-12, although the D-backs were just 5-5 in their last 10 games. They face the Chicago Cubs this weekend for a three-game set with Dan Haren meeting Ted Lilly in the opener.

Mark Reynolds, who delivered a bloop single in the fifth to score Stephen Drew, went 3-for-4, while Young and Chris Snyder each had two RBIs for Arizona.

The Phillies managed just six hits, two each from Bruntlett and Shaun Victorino.
