Mountain View, CA (AHN) - Leaders of Internet giant Google told reporters Thursday they were happy Microsoft's plans to acquire Yahoo fell apart. Yahoo was "under a hostile attack and we wanted to make sure they had as many options as possible," Google co-founder Sergey Brin said.

Google CEO Eric Schmidt told reporters prior to the Internet company's annual shareholders' meeting that the Mountain View search firm is on "very, very friendly" terms with Yahoo.

Both companies have described as a success a two-week trial of Google serving up ads for Yahoo. That small test may be expanded, reports said.
