May 12, 2008 6:47 a.m. EST Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Hanoi, Vietnam (AHN) - At least four Vietnamese were killed in a flash flood triggered by heavy rains in central Vietnam, local news agency reported on Monday. According to local news agency, Saigon Liberation, the flood killed at least four including two children in Dac Nong central highlands province, about 155 miles from Ho Chi Minh City. Reports said the flash flood was triggered by non-stop rains for about two hours Sunday. The local government dispatched rescue operations immediately to areas affected by the flash flood where thousands of families were relocated to higher grounds. The military were also mobilized to assist in search and rescue operations to look for missing persons reported at the height of the heavy rains. A community police official identified as Dinh Dang Thoan said the two children who were killed ages two and seven while two others were workers at the hydropower in the community Thoan said, "They were sleeping in makeshift tents near a river when the flash flood happened, washing them and their tents away. We have found the bodies of three of them, but not yet the body of the seven-year-old girl."
