May 12, 2008 8:16 a.m. EST Anne Lu - Celebrity News Service News Writer Phoenix, AZ (CNS) - Three days after getting arrested for a months-old speeding violation, actor/rapper DMX has been arrested again for suspicion of animal abuse and felony drug possession. Officers had arrested Earl Simmons, the rapper's real name, after a search on his house. The "Exit Wounds" star had a brief altercation with the police after he attempted to lock himself up in his bedroom before getting busted. According to the Maricopa County sheriff's office, a search warrant had been issued to rummage Simmons' residence in connection with a seven-month-old investigation claiming that the rapper had numerous malnourished pit bulls on his property. E! News has quoted Sheriff Joe Arpaio as saying about the case, "A guy like this DMX character with all his money and fame has no excuse for not providing proper care for his animals. He has a long criminal history and obviously has no respect for the law." Simmons was charged with seven misdemeanor counts of animal cruelty and four counts of felony drug possession. His attorney, Murray Richman, told E! News that, "Bail was set for $7,500 and he's on his way out now." Richman adds, "They also charged him for the dogs from 10 months ago, even though he wasn't there." The rapper was also apprehended Tuesday after a neighborhood traffic cam caught him driving between 100 to 114 miles per hour in January.
