May 12, 2008 9:35 a.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Singapore (AHN) - SingTel announced Monday it will distribute Apple's iPhone in Singapore, Australia and India. The news follows Vodafone's announcement it will also distribute the popular combination handset and media player in Australia, India and eight other countries. As the iPhone nears its second anniversary, Apple appears to be lessening its grip from previous exclusive carrier deals. While SingTel Mobile will distribute the iPhone in Singapore, SingTel subsidiary Optus will sell the handset in Australia. Bharti Airtel and Globe Telecom, both receiving SingTel investment, will push the iPhone in India and the Philippines.
