May 12, 2008 1:15 p.m. EST Kris Alingod - AHN News Writer Washington, D.C. (AHN) - A court appearance by Rep. Vito Fossella (R-NY) for charges of driving while under the influence of alcohol was postponed on Monday, according to the Congressional Quarterly. Fossella, who is campaigning for his seventh term this election, was arrested on May 1 by Virginia police for driving with a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit. His arrest led him to admit last week to having an extramarital affair and fathering a child out of wedlock. Fossella said in a press conference on Thursday that he plans to continue his job in the House "over the coming weeks and months," but there were reports the next day that he was planning to resign. His public relations firm, O'Reilly Strategic Communications, has denied such reports to the Hill. If convicted, Fossella faces a sentence of five days imprisonment and the revocation of his driver's license for a year.
