Spygate Drama Continues As New Tape Unveiled

New York, NY (AHN) -- Spygate continues to cook on the back burner of New England fans as new evidence is being considered by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. In Matt Walsh's care package, he apparently included a tape labeled "OFF Signals" which allegedly serves as proof that the Patriots illicit knowledge was more than just one sided.

The format of this tape depicts Miami Dolphins coaches giving the signal, cutting to a shot of the scoreboard to record the down, and then showing the play unfold. It was taped in 2001.

Thus far, Walsh has turned over eight tapes to the NFL. Most contain taping of the defensive signals used by rival teams, though none of these bring anything to light that the NFL didn't all ready know about.

Former Quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who was on the team during that 2002 Superbowl Championship, spoke to the Boston Herald regarding Spygate.

"To be honest with you, my take now is the same as it's always been. Every team in the league is trying to do everything they can to get ahead. I'm sure most, if not all, are bending the rules in some way, shape or form. This just happened to be one that was very public, and the organization has been reprimanded for it.

"As a player here, I never did see anything other than what was already reported. Was it a violation of the spirit of the rules? Absolutely, it was, but I think all of that has been readily acknowledged."

Fortunately for the Patriots, Walsh didn't have the smoking gun of video tapes, the long anticipated 2002 Superbowl Rams Walkthrough. Had proof of this event taken form, the Patriots would likely face far stiffer injunctions than the penalties coach Bill Belichick had to face. Belichick would have faced a one year suspension, and most likely have lost his job.

For what has been discovered, it is not likely that the Patriots will face harsher penalties, as the league's punishment was tailored to include taping signals of all kinds, offensive or defensive. The league, however, has not taken an official position on this as of Monday. The NFL plans to have one final meeting on Tuesday to wrap this up.
