London, England (CNS) - Natalie Portman has dropped out from "Wuthering Heights." The Golden Globe award-winning actress decided to quit the Emily Bronte novel-based film because of scheduling conflicts.

Hanway Films, the company selling the movie, is planning an aggressive campaign after the 26-year-old actress left the production just days ahead of the Festival de Cannes.

They are hoping to find a quick replacement for Portman, who was originally tapped to play Cathy, one of the lead characters in John Maybury's adaptation of the classic novel.

There's no word on who will play Heathcliff but reports suggest that German-born thesp Michael Fassbender is in the final negotiation stage to play Heathcliff, the central male character.
