May 12, 2008 8:18 p.m. EST Norman Vergara - AHN Sports Writer Minneapolis, MN (AHN) - The Boston Red Sox on Monday brought one of their hard-hitting veterans back on the field while getting rid of a journeyman reliever who's off to a horrible start this season. The reigning World Series champions activated first baseman Sean Casey, more than two weeks after suffering a strained right hip. He was batting .346 and had eight RBIs at the time of the injury. The veteran Casey saw action for two games at Triple-A Pawtucket before completely making the recovery. He is in his first season with Boston after spending last year with the Detroit Tigers. To make room for his return, the Red Sox designated right-hander Julian Tavarez for assignment. The reliever currently sits at an 0-1 record with a 6.39 ERA in nine games. Tavarez struggled to carry his impressive two seasons at St. Louis into Boston, with his ERA plummeting every year. He's carded back-to-back sub-3.50 ERAs with the Cardinals from 2004 to 2005 and followed that up with 4.47 in 2006 and 5.15 last year, both with the Red Sox.
