Cleveland, OH (AHN) -- Cleveland Indians second baseman Asbrubal Cabrera turned the 14th unassisted triple play in major league history against Toronto on Monday. Cabrera made a diving catch on a line drive by Lyle Overbay, touched second base and then tagged out Marco Scutaro in the fifth inning of the second game of Monday's doubleheader. Kevin Mench and Scutaro, who both had opened the inning with singles off Cleveland pitcher Cliff Lee, were running on the pitch. Overbay told the Associated Press, "I get to go down in history. They can't take that away from me. I guess it's not smart to hit a line drive on a hit-and-run. Only bad things can happen." Cabrera was so excited after completing the first unassisted triple play since Colorado's Troy Tulowitzki turned the trick last year that he threw the ball in the stands. Cleveland first base coach Luis Rivera told the Associated Press, "He flipped it into the stands and right as he did he cried out, 'Oh, no!'" It was the third unassisted triple play in Cleveland's storied history. Neal Ball completed the first in 1909 and Bill Wambsganss the other in the 1920 World Series -- still the only unassisted triple play in World Series history. The last unassisted triple play in the American League was Oakland's Randy Velarde in 2000.
