May 13, 2008 8:52 a.m. EST Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Colombo, Sri Lanka (AHN) - At least 18 Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels were killed, including a police official , while 17 others were injured in restive northern Sri Lanka after a fierce battle with government soldiers on Monday, a government official said on Tuesday. The defense ministry said the clash occurred in Vavuniya district on Monday but did not say how many casualties for their soldiers. But officials said two separate clashes happened in Sri Lanka's restive northern region, Vavuniya, Mannar and Welloya. Officials also said that at least eight troopers were injured in the attack.
