Florida Day Care Center Investigated After 38 Children Ride In 15-Passenger Van

Jacksonville, FL (AHN) - The Florida Department of Children and Family Services is investigating a Jacksonville day care center for allegedly putting 38 children into a 15-passenger van to go to a restaurant.

DCF officials say that Kids Creation Child Care overloaded the van and was headed back to the day care facility when a Chuck E. Cheese employee saw the children getting into the van and called police.

Police found a group of 4-year-olds with some sitting on other children's laps while others either sat on the floor between the seats or rode in the van standing up. They ordered the day care center to get a second van to transport the children back to the center.

However, when that van arrived, police found one driver had only a learner's permit, while the other driver lacked a valid license.

The day care center faces heavy fines but probably not criminal charges, according to reports. Police are still investigating the incident.
