New York, NY (AHN) - Surveys across the U.S. showed pump prices continued to rise across the nation. According to a survey released Monday by the AAA and the Oil Price Information Service, the average pump price of regular gas has reached $3.79 a gallon.
The Lundberg Survey of 7,000 service stations nationwide released Sunday identified Chicago as having the most expensive gas across the country, which averaged at $4.07 a gallon. Aside from Chicago, Long Island in New York was retailing regular gas over $4 a gallon.
The lowest-priced gas could be found in Tucson, Arizona, where it costs $3.48 per gallon on the average.
Diesel costs more at $4.52 a gallon. The AAA and OPIS survey identified three more states where gasoline sells above $4 a gallon. These were in California, Alaska and Connecticut.
Geoff Sundstrom, fuel price analyst at AAA, told Newsday, "We're looking at $4 a gallon once we get past Memorial Day and into June, given the oil prices we're seeing today."
