May 20, 2008 1:23 p.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Los Gatos, CA (AHN) - Mail-in DVD rental service Netflix Tuesday unveiled new hardware allowing its library of movies to be streamed customers' televisions using a $100 set-top box. The unit, developed by Roku Inc., measures 5-in by 5 in uses a home broadband connection to access about 10 percent of the company's library of 100,000 movies and television shows. The box follows a previous streaming effort by Netflix that required subscribers view programs from their PCs. Apple also makes a set-top box permitting movies and television shows to be streamed from iTunes. Two other Netflix set-top boxes are in the works, one possibly from LG Electronics.
