Jojo Doria - AHN Blakely, GA (AHN) - New Orleans Saints defensive end Charles Grant and six others were indicted Tuesday for involuntary manslaughter charges that stemmed from a Georgia nightclub altercation in February resulting in the death of a pregnant woman. Grant was charged by an Early County grand jury with felony murder and feticide which resulted in the shooting and death of one Konya Reed, 23. Reed passed away after being rushed to the Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan right after the fight early February 3. Aside from Grant, Laquient Macklin, Marshae Stromer, Anthony Wilson, Jarvis Tinson, Rodreaco Gray and Woodrow Gray were also charged with manslaughter for their alleged participation in the fight. According to Sheriff's Capt. Will Caudill, there was no known connection between Grant and Reed at the time of the incident. Caudill also said that the fight began inside the club and later continued outside. Grant was attacked and suffered a stab wound in the neck after shots were fired. Woodrow Gray, one of those charged with involuntary manslaughter, also faces an aggravated assault with a knife charge following the stabbing of Grant during the fracas. Grant did not sustain any serious injuries. Said Saints spokesman Greg Bensel as reported by the Associated Pres: "We are aware and have no comment." The former star from the University of Georgia, who was selected by the Saints in the first round of the 2002 NFL draft, became one of the highest-paid defensive ends in the league during the offseason following a seven-year deal worth $63 million with a guaranteed $20 million. The six-year NFL veteran tied a career low of just two and a half sacks in 14 starts during the 2007 season due to injuries and tentativeness. Grant also faces misdemeanor charge for creating a disturbance.
