May 21, 2008 2:02 p.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor New York, NY (AHN) - AT&T unveiled plans to offer free Wi-Fi service for some laptop users. Subscribers to the company's LaptopConnect service will receive a computer alert when their wireless computer is near an AT&T hotspot. Nationally, AT&T has more than 17,000 Wi-Fi hotspots, nearly half at Starbucks, the coffee shop chain. When not near an AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot, LaptopConnect subscribers can connect via the company's 3G network.
