May 21, 2008 4:18 p.m. EST Jojo Doria - AHN Stamford, CT (AHN) - Wrestler and performer Darren Matthews has been suspended by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) for 60-days for a second drug infraction. Matthews which is more popularly known inside the ring as 'William Regal' has been meted a 60-day suspension without pay. Jennifer McIntosh, spokeswoman for the Stamford-based WWE said that there have been more than 30 suspensions assessed under the WWE substance-abuse and drug-testing policy which started in 2006, but declined to mention the drugs involved in Matthew's case Tuesday. For the first infraction, a wrestler gets a 30-day suspension without receiving pay, while a second time violator will be assessed a 60-day suspension. A third violation would result in the termination of the wrestler. Performers are required to undergo testing at least four times a year. In August, the WWE suspended around 10 performers for ordering human growth hormones which is prohibited in the WWE wellness policy. Matthews, an English professional wrestler, is a four-time European Champion in the WWF/E and a five-time Hardcore Champion. He is also a four-time World Tag Team Champion and has recently bagged the crown in the 2008 King of the Ring match.
