May 21, 2008 5:44 p.m. EST Norman Vergara - AHN Sports Writer San Jose, CA (AHN) - The San Jose Sharks on Wednesday gave a one-year contract extension to veteran center Jeremy Roenick, enabling him to play in his 20th season in a storied NHL career. Financial terms of the new deal were not disclosed although Roenick had been lobbying for around $1 million. The signing assures the 19-year journeyman of a return to San Jose, where he regained his scoring prowess in front of the net last season. Roenick delivered 14 goals and 33 points in 69 regular-season games. His 10 game-winning goals ranked second in the league while his three shootout winners were a team-high. The nine-time All-Star also made history in November, when he scored his 500th goal in his career. Over his tenure, Roenick has 509 goals and 1,203 points, which currently ranks second and third, respectively, among all U.S.-born players in the NHL. The Boston native has played in more than 1,300 games spread across five teams, the longest at Chicago, which selected him eighth overall in the 1988 draft. Roenick also saw action with Phoenix, Philadelphia and Los Angeles.
