May 22, 2008 2:40 p.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Mountain View, CA (AHN) - Internet search giant Google again lengthened its lead over Yahoo, Microsoft and others. Google's share of the search market in April was 61.6 percent, up from 59.8 percent in March, said researcher comScore. Google completed 6.51 billion searches during the month. By comparison, Yahoo's market share fell to 20.4 percent and Microsoft's piece of the search pie shrank to 9.1 percent. The top three search engines are involved in negotiations they hope will give them an edge against rivals. Google is discussing with Yahoo about providing search advertising for the Sunnyvale, Calif. Internet company, a move that could bring Yahoo $1 billion annually. Meanwhile, Microsoft is reportedly considering buying Yahoo's search business after negotiations failed to acquire the entire company.
