Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor San Francisco, CA (AHN) - Videogame retailer GameStop said it will discontinue sales of the Microsoft Zune. The company said Microsoft's alternative to Apple's iTunes just wasn't selling enough. GameStop decided to drop the media player a month ago, confirming its decision during an earnings call Thursday. The retailer has already stop selling Zune software and will offer the Zune online until supplies end. In response to the announcement, Microsoft said it still has agreements with large electronics chains, such as Best Buy to sell the $130 device. Introduced in 2006, the Zune has captured only 2.6 percent of the digital media player market dominated by Apple. Since hitting stores, around 2 million Zunes have been sold, compared to 80 million iPods.
