Cannes, France (CNS) - Madonna's auctioned off a one of a kind Chanel handbag and the contents of the purse at a charity auction at the Cannes Film Festival on Thursday to raise money for AIDS research.

The pop superstar emptied her purse and produced lip gloss, hair clips, a magnifying mirror and skin blotting tissues. The items went up on the auction block next to the diamond encrusted alligator bag donated by Chanel.

She told the crowd not to insult her with lows bids saying, "This lip gloss touched my lips." Hopefully, she wasn't disappointed with the price of $472,000 that the items sold for.

Sharon Stone, the auctioneer for the event, started things off by pledging $100,000 for Pediatric AIDS research and asked others to do the same.

Just minutes into the event, the charity raised $2 million with bidders including Roberto Cavalli, Tommy Hilfiger, Valentino, Milla Jovovich and Michelle Yeoh.

Sharon Stone auctioned her red 1976 vintage Porsche 911 Targa for $786,000 and Sean "Diddy" Combs offered to let a fan hang out with him 24 hours, which went for $314,000.

The charity, American Foundation for Aids Research (amFar), raised more than $10 million, a record for the annual event. The benefit was held at the Moulin de Mougins outside of Cannes.
