Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - Some 34 residents from a condominium building were evacuated by Japanese police after a man committed suicide by mixing and inhaling laundry chemical compounds Wednesday.

The suicide incident is the latest trend in a series of suicides across the country.

The lifeless body of the man was found inside the apartment together with the chemicals which he had combined to form hydrogen sulfide gas. The gas killed the man.

According to Kanazawa City police officials, they received a call from a resident who noticed a foul smell coming from the door of one of the building's occupants.

At least 84 suicide incidents across Japan were recorded by the Japanese government in May. In 2006, the region recorded an all-time high incidence of suicide with a total of 32,155.

Meanwhile, 54 people were sickened two weeks ago inside the Japanese Red Cross Kumamoto Hospital when a man who committed suicide by swallowing pesticide, vomited while in the hospital.

People inside the hospital inhaled the fumes the man vomited and became sick.
