June 6, 2008 2:23 p.m. EST Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Chipmaking giant Intel has been subpoenaed by the Federal Trade Commission concerning possible antitrust activities. Intel said it has already provided the FTC with thousands of documents as part of an informal probe that began in 2006. In a statement, the company said it was working within U.S. law. Advanced Micro Devices, an Intel rival, also received an FTC subpoena. AMD has urged the U.S. and other countries to check Intel's use of rebates. Thursday, South Korea's Fair Trade Commission announced it will fine Intel $25.4 million for the Santa Clara, Calif.-based company's use of rebates to get PC makers to use its microprocessors, rather than rival Advanced Micro Devices. Intel said it will appeal that decision.
