Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor Cupertino, CA (AHN) - Apple, the No. 1 U.S. music retailer, announced Thursday its digital music marketplace iTunes has sold 5 billion songs. In February, iTunes passed the 4 billion songs sold mark. The milestone means Apple has made $5 billion from selling $0.99 copies of its 8 million available songs on iTunes, according to one estimate. Apple, which dominates the digital music scene with its iPod, broke 1 billion songs sold more than two years ago, recording the event in February 2006. The company reached 2 billion songs sold in January 2007. The Cupertino, Calif.-based company said it has sold more than 50,000 videos since adding them in January. The iTunes store opened in 2003.
