Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Jim Carrey will revisit his early days in L.A.'s comedy clubs by co-creating a half-hour series for HBO about a woman who unexpectedly inherits a comedy club.

Carrey, who honed his skills on the L.A. standup circuit, is on board with HBO to co-create and executive produce the original series. Comedian Lisa Lampanelli will star in the project, as the woman who inherits the comedy club.

In the 1980s, Carrey appeared on stage at the Comedy Story on the Sunset Strip, with Mitzi Shore running the show.

In addition to the HBO pilot, the comedian actor has several films in the works, including the dark comedy "I Love You Phillip Morris" with Ewan McGregor, the comedy "Yes Man" and Robert Zemeckis' "A Christmas Carol."
