Tokyo, Japan (AHN) - Asian markets closed mixed with resource and financial firms feeling the brunt of losses and exporters rising on a weaker yen.

In Tokyo, markets were mixed as the Nikkei 225 lost a fraction, closing at 13,849 while the broader Topix gained 0.1 percent to end at 1,349.

Exporters also provided a see-saw close as automakers lost ground to higher oil prices while exporters advanced on word of a weaker yen.

The Shanghai Composite was marked by volatile trading as the market rose 1.5 percent to 2,803 after opening the day lower at 2,728.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index gave up 1.1 percent to 22,456 and the Hang Seng China Enterprise index fell even more, retreating 1.8 percent to 12,018.

South Korea's Kospi also lost ground, falling 0.3 percent to 1,710.
