Topics: SportsStorrs, CT (AHN) - Stanley Robinson will likely return to UConn but will have to sit out the first semester to settle academic issues before being allowed to rejoin the Huskies.

The 6-foot-9 forward, who together with a few teammates were believed to have transferred to another school after failing the expectation of Huskies coach Jim Calhoun in terms of academics and personal concerns, signified his intention to remain in UConn to continue his career following a meeting with Calhoun in campus last week. But Robinson will have to sit out the first semester to settle academic and personals issues he has encountered in his two years at the university.
"He will not play in the first semester," Calhoun told The Day of New London. "I'm not keeping him out. The NCAA is not keeping him out. But we asked for a medical redshirt. We just filed it. ... We're just going to keep him out of school."
Robinson, one of the top-rated recruits in 2006 by the Huskies, is presently taking summer courses at a junior college near his Birmingham, Ala., home as he deals with academic as well as personal concerns. His fellow teammates Doug Wiggins and Curtis Kelly who were alleged to have transferred with him to another school will not return to UConn. Wiggins is reportedly at University of Massachusetts, while Kelly landed at Kansas State.
"He does things that are very different and some of those things end up being very hurtful to him. And by different I mean whether it be missing classes or disappearing for two or three days at a time and going to Alabama," Calhoun told The Day. . . "And this is the only way that we feel that we can get Stanley to start reacting. So he's got some responsibilities this summer."
Robinson, who started in 32 of 33 games in his sophomore year, will be eligible to rejoin the Huskies if re-enrolls at UConn either for the second semester or in the fall of 2009. He has registered a 10.4 points average and 6.5 rebounds a game and had a career-high 32 points against Maine in Dec.22.
Expected to battle for the slot vacated by Robinson in the team are incoming players Kemba Walker, Ater Majok and the well-traveled incoming freshman Nate Miles from Toledo, Ohio.
