June 28, 2008 5:12 p.m. EST Matt Aug - AHN Sports Reporter Philadelphia, PA. (AHN) - The Philadelphia Flyers and Jeff Carter came to terms on a three-year deal worth a reported $15 million Friday, keeping the talented center on the fast-improving team. Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren is pleased to have Carter's skills to continue building his team around. "Jeff is a terrific young player who has come up through our organization, and we believe that he is only going to get better," Holmgren told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "It is a priority for us to keep our core of young players intact, and signing Jeff allows us to do that." Carter is tough, talented and versatile, netting 29 goals with 24 assists for 53 points with 55 penalty minutes in 82 games for the Flyers last season. Carter led the Flyers to the Eastern Conference finals, where they fell to the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he looks forward to helping the them continue to improve. He had six goals and five assists in the postseason, proving Carter can also play well under playoff pressure. "I'm definitely happy," said Carter, who spoke via conference call from his home in London, Ontario. "I think I said from day one that I didn't want to go anywhere. I'm very excited to be staying in Philadelphia. We have great group of guys on this team, and I can't wait to get back on the ice and continue where we left off last season," he said.
