New York, NY (AHN) - Fugitive hedge fund manager Samuel Israel III Wednesday turned himself in to Massachussetts police, the government said.

Israel, who was set to go to prison for 20 years for fraud over his handling of failed Bayou Hedge Funds, became a wanted man after his SUV was found June 9 with a message implying he had committed suicide.

On June 20, the FBI arrested Israel's girlfriend, Debra Ryan, charging her with aiding and abetting his hasty departure. Ryan was later released on $75,000 bail.

According to authorities, Ryan drove Israel back home after he left his SUV with a note scrawled on the window that "suicide is painless."
