London, UK (AHN) - The popularity of Mozilla's new browser may have put in the record book. Guinness, the keeper of the well-known Guiness World Records, said Firefox 3 broke the record for most downloads in a day.

The record-keeper and Mountain View, Calif.-based Mozilla Foundation, said 8,002,530 downloads were logged in June for the Firefox 3, the latest version of the open-source Internet application.

Downloads for the new Firefox quickly outpaced demand for the previous version 2, passing the 1.6 million downloads for the 2006 browser in five hours of first becoming available, reports said.

Although Firefox 3 experienced record demand, workers at the Mozilla Foundation said they won't open any champagne until they receive the official certificate in London next week.
