(AHN) - The Milwaukee Brewers had a blast on the Fourth of July, rapping out 14 hits en route to a 9-1 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday afternoon. Jason Kendall added an RBI single in the third and the Brewers erupted for five runs in the fifth, including a J.J. Hardy two-run blast that was apropos for the day. Ben Sheets (10-2) silenced the Pirates, meanwhile, allowing eight hits though just a run over 5.2 frames. Sheets fanned six batters, walked three and reduced his ERA to an impressive 2.77 on the season. Tom Gorzelanny (6-7) got knocked around in his start for the Bucs, yielding 11 hits and seven earned runs in 4.2 innings to see his ERA soar to 6.57. Milwaukee's bullpen also outperformed Pittsburgh's, as Carlos Villanueva earned his first save of the season with 3.1 innings of one-hit ball. Pittsburgh's offense was anemic, as Xavier Nady produced the lone run by driving in Jack Wilson with an RBI double in the third.
