July 17, 2008 10:45 p.m. EST Norman Vergara - AHN Sports Writer San Diego, CA (AHN) - San Diego Chargers team president and chief executive officer Dean Spanos has promoted his eldest son, A.G., to executive officer as the family prepares to transition the team's management operations. The older Spanos, 58, said his son has had the needed exposure in the business and has been involved in numerous decisions he's had in the past. Prior to the promotion, A.G. served as the Chargers' director of marketing programs and business development. "In the past several years, most every decision I've run by him," the president told the San Diego Union-Tribune. "He's got a good grasp. I've appreciated his input, so I felt it was the right time." Despite A.G.'s promotion, the 30-year-old son will have his hands clear of the management duties and will only be concerned with the business side of the team. His new position, though, puts him directly below his father in the organizational chart. CFO Jeanne Bonk, COO Jim Steeg and Chief Marketing Officer Ken Derrett also will now report to him. The Chargers also promoted younger brother John to director of college scouting. The younger Spanos was the team's assistant director.
