Dallas, TX (AHN) - American Airlines said Friday it will cut 1,500 jobs in the maintenance division as it reduces the number of aircrafts in its operating fleet.

The nation's largest airline said cuts could be up to 1,300 maintenance workers and 200 management positions.

American Airlines spokesperso, Tami McLallen said a timeline for the cuts has yet to be set and the locations that will feel the impact have not been selected.

The airline has roughly 14,000 maintenance division employees. About 13,000 of them are represented by the Transport Workers Union.

American had previously announced plans to cut 6,800 jobs as the company reduces U.S. flight capacity by 12 percent by the fall.

The airline and its feeder carrier American Eagle plan to ground 103 planes this year.

Shares of AMR Corp. (AMR) were up 3.1 percent to $7.13 on Friday.
