July 22, 2008 8:13 p.m. EST Jennifer Tormo - Celebrity News Service Hollywood, CA (CNS) - Amy Winehouse, whose own drug and alcohol problems have been heavily covered in the media, has now - get this - volunteered to help fellow drug addicts. According to a friend of Winehouse's, the singer is making progress with her own addictions. "Amy feels so much better in herself and has decided she wants to make a difference and give something back to people who are battling with addictions. Despite what's being said, she's doing really well and has turned a corner," she says. According to Heat magazine, Winehouse has enlisted the help of her family and is making plans to volunteer at rehab centers. "Her family have been a rock for her and she feels like she owes others something," says the friend. She adds, "She's spoken to rehab centers and addiction clinics about doing volunteer work and has offered to do some talks to the in-patients about her experiences and how she overcame what have been some of the hardest, darkest days of her life." Whether or not Winehouse will actually be a good role model for those dealing with addictions is debatable.
