Police Say It Smells Like Death In Trunk Of Mother's Car In Case Of Missing Orlando Toddler

Orlando, FL (AHN) -- The mother of a missing Orlando toddler is behind bars Wednesday after investigators told a court that her trunk smelled like death.

With only circumstantial evidence so far, Orange Circuit Court Judge Stan Strickland set Casey Anthony's bail at $500,000. Anthony's attorney told the Associated Press that's much higher than usual bail in cases with only circumstantial evidence.

Anthony is currently charged with child neglect, making false official statements and obstructing a criminal investigation.

The new evidence, including the scent of a decomposing body in the trunk, a mysterious stain, some of little Caylee's hair, and cadaver dogs signaling that they picked up on a scent in both the backyard and the trunk, led Judge Strickland to say that Anthony is too much of a flight risk to allow her to easily be bailed out of jail.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, the judge deemed Anthony untrustworthy because she has done nothing but lie to police during the investigation into her 2-year-old's whereabouts.

The paper reported that Anthony has consistently changed the date of the last time she says she saw her daughter, she lied about a baby-sitter's existence, she wasn't home for a month before her daughter was reported missing, she lied to her parents, whom she and Caylee live with, about her employment, she only reported the girl missing a week ago, but told her brother she hadn't seen Caylee for 31 days. Finally, a neighbor said she borrowed a shovel for about an hour in mid to late June.

The FBI and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement are helping local police with the case. The Orlando Sentinel reported that The FBI is prioritizing the lab work associated with Caylee's disappearance. The are also working on out-of-state leads.
