Melbourne, Australia (AHN) - Contact center outsourcing specialist PCI has tapped Canadian telecom equipment maker Nortel for the communications system of its new call center facility in Melbourne, Australia

With Nortel's telecom products and systems, PCI expects to manage its call agents even when mobile and working offsite regardless of location. Agents would be allowed to work from anywhere while maintaining their phone numbers, caller groups and access to network resources, according to a Trading Markets report.

PCI will use Nortel's Communication Server 1000E IP PBX, which is backed up by Nortel's Ethernet Routing Switch network. The network delivers Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) and gigabit speeds to every computer.

Wireless LAN coverage is supplied by the Nortel Multimedia WLAN 2300, which is capable of securing wireless connectivity to all call agents. The package includes Nortel's Call Pilot unified messaging and Communication Control Toolkit.

Nortel's communication system will be installed in a 6,000 square meter greenfield site with a fully IP-enabled network, which could support 715 active agents and over 850 concurrent users.

PCI targets to cut on carbon residues with Nortel's bundled voice, data and wireless network at its Melbourne headquarters.

A technical services team from Commander, Nortel's Platinum nPower channel partner, will deploy and integrate the PBX system as well as on-going support services.

PCI clients are mostly Australian and multinational companies involved in telecoms, banking, information technology and utilities.
