Vittorio Hernandez - AHN News Writer Frankfurt, Germany (AHN) - Lufthansa canceled on Wednesday nine long-haul flights to Calcutta in India, Calgary in Canada and Chicago and New York in the U.S. on the air carrier's third day of strike. The nine canceled international trips were in additional to 70 short-haul journeys canceled by the German air carrier on Tuesday. To prevent further disruption of its services which was timed at the peak of summer travel season, Lufthansa said its planes will be maintained abroad by changing flight schedules to be able to have the servicing done on a rotation basis. Also on Tuesday, Lufthansa announced its preliminary mid-year results in which the air carrier's operating profits went up 45 percent to $1.098 billion (705 million euro).
