Washington, D.C.(AHN) - A day after potential Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Pawlenty praised Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL), former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Thursday that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) could create a unity ticket by choosing a Democrat as his running mate.

"The reality is either way you might see something like that," Giuliani said on CNN's 'American Morning.' "But, if you're asking me is it possible in this day and age that you could have a ticket like that? I think so."

Giuliani, a potential McCain VP himself, dropped out of the Republican race and endorsed McCain early this year. He has downplayed prospects of a ticket with his former rival, saying he should devote his attention to ensuring a Republican victory in November.

His comments come a day after Pawlenty offered words of support for Obama during a forum at the National Press Club.

"Say what you will about Barack Obama, and I say a lot of negative things about him," he said, according to MSNBC. "We need leaders, and John McCain is positive as well. People gravitate when you've got something positive to say."

Pawlenty, 47, is a six-term state representative that many pundits believe would complement a McCain presidency. He has strong support among Evangelicals and is one of many young rising Republicans that include Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and House chief deputy minority whip Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA).
