August 7, 2008 3:52 p.m. EST Jojo Doria - AHN Bloomfield Township, MI (AHN) - Hunter Mahan, currently preparing for the PGA, apologized for his comments during an interview regarding the Ryder Cup event, a game he has never played. The 26-year-old American, in a magazine interview, reportedly criticized the Ryder Cup event as nothing more than money, waste of time and extravagance. Mahan added that players are like "slaves" doing what the organizers want them to do. But all of Mahan's opinions were based from those who actually participated in the game. The whole incident stemmed from a question regarding the failure of the U.S. side to win the event. Mahan reportedly responded to the question using comments from former players like attending dinners every night, the issue of generating more income for the event and the taking away of fun from the game. Mahan has apologized to officials of the PGA and has called on U.S. captain Paul Azinger to express his regrets. Ranked No. 10 in the Ryder Cup standings, Mahan will need a strong showing at Oakland Hills this week to boost his chances of getting selected for the team. Mahan, however, is resigned to whatever effect his criticisms would have on his chances of landing the American team.
