Washington, D.C. (AHN) - Former North Carolina Senator and the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee John Edwards has admitted to lying during the 2008 campaign about an extramarital affair with a filmmaker. In an interview with ABC's "Nightline," Edwards admitted to an affair with Rielle Hunter, but denied he was the father of her baby girl, Frances Quinn.

The affair allegedly began in 2006, when the pair met in New York City. Hunter was later hired to produce documentaries for his 2008 presidential campaign.

Last October, the National Enquirer ran a report saying the pair had been romantically involved. Edwards denied the story, calling it "false."

"It's completely untrue, it's ridiculous," Edwards said last year.

Now, Edwards says the reports are true. In fact, Edwards admitted to ABC that he told his wife Elizabeth and some other family members about the affair with Hunter in 2006.
