August 16, 2008 2:41 p.m. EST Linda Young - AHN Editor Tallahassee, FL (AHN) - Florida Governor Charlie Crist on Saturday declared a state of emergency in response to Tropical Storm Fay. Crist acted shortly after Fay left Haiti and headed for Cuba on a path that is forecast to bring it to Florida on Monday. Fay is expected to strengthen to a category one hurricane sometime before it reaches the United States, Florida is in the center of the predicted cone path for the storm. The governor warned Floridians to make sure they are prepared for a hurricane and to follow directives from local officials. Crist said that the lower Florida Keys could be under tropical storm watches later Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Miami-based National Hurricane Center forecasters issued an advisory warning anyone in the Florida Keys or Peninsula, or anyone with interest there, to monitor Fay's progress.
