August 17, 2008 8:34 a.m. EST Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Fairfield, Calif. (AHN) - More than 100 unoccupied homes were destroyed and another 300 buildings were threatened when a seven fire alarm struck on a California air force base Saturday afternoon, authorities said. The blaze started as a small grass fire near the main entrance of the Travis Air Force Base. However, the fire spread quickly when the wind blew onto the base engulfing some 125 houses in flames around 3:15 p.m. Fortunately, the houses were vacant and set for demolition. Fire fighters said the blaze spread in the northwest region of the air force base, burning more than 750 acres in five hours. Base commander Mark Dillon said it was the biggest fire at Travis Air Force Base since 1942. Fairfield Fire Department officials said there were no reports of casualties.
