August 18, 2008 8:26 a.m. EST Preciosa Dumlao - AHN News Writer Queensland, Australia (AHN) - The mayor of a small Australian mining town received negative feedback when he said that unattractive women could find a partner in his locality because men outnumbered women, five-to-one, in the country's northwest mining center. Mount Isa's Mayor John Molony said, "five blokes to every girl, may I suggest that beauty-disadvantaged women should proceed to Mount Isa." He also said, "not so attractive women appeared happy with the five-to-one gender imbalance." Women were angered by Molony's 'not-so-beautiful' comment and since then he has received complaints from both genders. But the mayor refused to apologize, even if he drew criticism about his statement. He was quoted as saying, "I'm telling it like it is."
