Naples, FL (AHN) - Tropical storm Fay's 65-mph winds knocked down power lines and put the lights out in 93,000 homes in 20 Florida counties on Tuesday. A tornado also damaged 50 homes.

Collier County bore the brunt of the storm with 34,000 outages while 9,700 residents in Brevard County were without power.

The tornado hit Brevard County at 1:45 p.m., injuring three people, emergency officials said. Another twister hit Wellington in Palm Beach County, blowing away a small barn and exposing a horse inside it.

Homes in Palm Beach County were also flooded while 31 schools in the region were closed.

Fay is moving north northeast through Florida and weather trackers predict it will be over the Atlantic Ocean on Wednesday. The hurricane center warned of tornadoes in St. Lucie and Indian River counties and issued tornado watches in several other areas. Up to 15 inches of rain is expected over southern and east-central Florida.

Florida's east coast from north of Ocean Reef to Flagler Beach, including Lake Okeechobee, remained under tropical storm warning. The coast north of Flagler Beach to Fernandina Beach is under a tropical storm watch.
