Jupiter Kalambakal - AHN News Writer Montreal, Quebec (AHN) - Bombardier announced Thursday that it has won two hybrid locomotive supply contracts worth $485 million from the New Jersey Transit Corp. and Agence Metropolitaine de Transport de Montreal (AMT). In a first for North America, Bombardier will assemble between 46 and 119 locomotives powered by either diesel or electricity. The $233 million AMT deal includes an initial order for 20 units with an option to buy 10 additional locomotives. The Montreal-based train operator will deploy the new locomotives in the planned Repentigny-Mascouche branch into Montreal Central station via Mount Royal tunnel. New Jersey Transit Corp., on the other hand, will order 26 units with the option to by 63 more locomotives at $262 million. The new trains are expected to boost service through the non-electrified lines into New York Penn Station. To date, NJ Transit has ordered a total of 329 units. Early last week, NJ Transit agreed to pay $76 million for an additional 50 double-deck coaches.
