Newark, DE (AHN) - The University of Connecticut's loss to its women's basketball team is Delaware's gain for its volleyball program.

Elena DelleDonne, who opted out of her scholarship to attend UConn on a basketball scholarship last week, decided to play volleyball at Delaware instead.

Delaware announced DelleDonne's decision Saturday and reported there would be a press conference Monday.

DelleDonne is quite a coup for the Fightin' Blue Hens, as she is a native of the state and led her high school basketball team to a state championship.

DelleDonne is a standout in both sports, also leading Ursuline High School to a championship in that sport, as well.

The former prep star has reportedly told friends she has more fun playing volleyball than basketball.

"Both UConn and I require a 100 percent dedication to the sport, and as of now I feel I can not give that level of commitment," DelleDonne said last week in a statement, reported by delawareonline.com
