Atlanta, GA (CNS) - Rapper Da Brat has been sentenced to three years in prison on Friday for hitting a cheerleader in the head with a liquor bottle last year.
As per the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Superior Court Judge Gail Flake gave the punishment while six members of her family quietly cried inside the courtroom. The rapper did not comment other than to answer the judge when she was asked.
Real name Shawntae Harris, the 34-year-old hip-hop artist must also complete 200 hours of community service, substance abuse treatment, mental evaluation, and anger management classes. She will also be subjected to seven years probation.
On October 31, 2007, Harris bumped into Shayla Stevens, an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader, at a private Halloween party at Studio 72. Stevens was working as a hostess at the event.
The rapper then hit Stevens in the head with a nearly full liquor bottle. She fell down the stairs to a cement floor and suffered facial cut, giving her a permanent scar.
Harris told her relatives as she was led out of the courtroom, "I love y'all."
Stevens is also suing Harris for unspecified medical fees and other costs in a separate civil case, which is still ongoing.
