Snoqualmie, WA (AHN) - A charging Tom Kite roared on the back nine to pass Scott Simpson and capture the Boeing Classic by two strokes for his second tournament victory in three years Sunday at the TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
Kite, the 2006 winner when the event was named Boeing Greater Seattle Classic, overran a struggling Simpson down the stretch to finish at 14-under 202.
He did it by firing a final-round 66 on the way to pocketing the event's $255,000 winning purse.
Simpson carded a 71 to close at 12-under 204 and by the time Kite flashed his veteran touch, the overnight leader had no answer to his fellow American's onslaught in the final seven holes.
Kite negated his two-shot deficit by making three straight pars before drilling a birdie on the 18th.
The victory was his 10th on his Champions Tour career but just his first in a span of two years.
John Cook finished the tournament at solo third, three shots behind Kite at 11-under 205.
Mark Wiebe was a stroke further back while Lonnie Nielsen and Dennis Watson, the defending champion who delivered a 66 Sunday, were tied for fifth at 9-under 207.
Five others came in a share of seventh place-Walter Hall, Bruce Fleisher, David Edwards, Mark McNulty and Nick Price.
Dan Forsman shot a third-round best of 64 to finish tied for 12th with Bruce Vaughan.
